Armenia Bolsters Defense Capabilities with Procurement of Indian Anti-Drone System

In a significant move to enhance its defense capabilities, Armenia is set to acquire an advanced anti-drone system from India’s Zen Technologies. The deal, reportedly worth around US$41 million, will provide Armenia with a critical tool to counter the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The Zen Anti-Drone System (ZADS) is a state-of-the-art counter-drone solution that utilizes a combination of passive surveillance, camera sensors, and directional jamming to detect, classify, and neutralize hostile drones. This multi-layered approach ensures effective protection against a wide range of drone threats, including those employed for reconnaissance, surveillance, and offensive operations.

Armenia’s decision to procure the ZADS stems from its recognition of the increasing sophistication and widespread use of drones in modern warfare. During the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan’s extensive deployment of drones proved to be a decisive factor in the outcome of the war. This experience has underscored the need for Armenia to strengthen its anti-drone capabilities in order to safeguard its territorial integrity and national security.

The acquisition of the ZADS represents a significant step forward in Armenia’s efforts to address the drone threat. The system’s ability to detect, classify, and neutralize drones will provide Armenian forces with a crucial advantage in defending their airspace and critical infrastructure.

“The deal with Zen Technologies reportedly includes training solutions and maintenance support.”

In addition to the supply of the anti-drone system, the deal with Zen Technologies reportedly includes training solutions and maintenance support. This comprehensive package will ensure that Armenian personnel are well-equipped to operate and maintain the ZADS effectively.

The procurement of the Indian anti-drone system also highlights the growing defense ties between Armenia and India. In recent years, the two countries have signed several defense agreements, fostering cooperation in areas such as military training and equipment procurement. The ZADS deal is a testament to the deepening strategic partnership between Armenia and India.

As Armenia moves forward with the acquisition of the Zen Anti-Drone System, it reaffirms its commitment to modernizing its defense capabilities and safeguarding its national security in the face of evolving threats. The system’s advanced technology and comprehensive support package will provide Armenia with a robust defense against the growing drone menace.
