Russia’s invitation for India to join its fifth-generation SU-75 fighter jet program is in the news again. However, it is unlikely that India will accept the invitation as it is already working on its home-grown Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program.

The AMCA is an indigenous stealth fighter jet program developed by India to create a highly advanced, next-generation combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force. The AMCA will be equipped with various advanced technologies, including stealth capabilities, advanced avionics, supercruise, and highly integrated electronic warfare systems.

One of the key reasons why India is unlikely to join the Russian SU-75 program is that it is already heavily invested in the AMCA program. The AMCA program is a critical component of India’s efforts to build up its domestic defense industry and become self-sufficient in producing advanced military technology. Joining the SU-75 program would likely mean diverting resources and manpower away from the AMCA program, which could delay its development and deployment.

“AMCA program is an opportunity for India to showcase its technical capabilities.”

Furthermore, the AMCA program is an opportunity for India to showcase its technical capabilities and demonstrate its commitment to self-reliance in defense production. The fifth-generation AMCA fighter jet program is expected to significantly boost India’s domestic aerospace and defense industry, creating jobs and driving economic growth.

Additionally, the AMCA program is aligned with India’s broader strategic interests. India has been building a strong and modern military capable of defending its regional interests and beyond. The AMCA program is a key part of this effort. Moreover, India has been focusing on developing its aerospace and defense industry to reduce its dependence on imports and become self-sufficient. The AMCA program is a significant step in this direction, allowing India to develop and produce its fifth-generation advanced combat aircraft.

It will give India greater control over its defense capabilities and help ensure that it is not vulnerable to disruptions in the supply chain.
In recent years, India has also been working on expanding its military partnerships and deepening its defense ties with other countries. The AMCA program is a significant part of this effort, as it will allow India to collaborate with other countries on developing advanced defense technologies. India is already working with several countries on the AMCA program to develop a 110kn Jet engine, which will allow it to expand its defense partnerships in the future further.

SU-75 program is still in the early stages of development

It is also worth noting that the SU-75 program is still in the early stages of development, and it is uncertain when the aircraft will be ready for deployment. On the other hand, the AMCA program is well underway and expected to be completed in the coming years. Therefore, India will likely focus its resources and efforts on the AMCA program rather than diverting them to the SU-75 program.

In conclusion, while Russia’s invitation for India to join the SU-75 program is a generous offer, India is unlikely to accept it. India is already heavily invested in its home-grown AMCA program, which is aligned with its strategic interests and provides significant benefits for its domestic defense industry and economy.

The Indian Air Force has announced plans to upgrade its fleet of Sukhoi jets for a reported cost of 4 billion dollars. The upgrade, which will enhance the aircraft’s capabilities and increase its capacity, is a crucial step in modernizing the Indian Air Force.

The upgrade will be performed on the Su-30MKI, one of the most advanced fighter jets in the Indian Air Force’s inventory. The upgrade will include new avionics, sensors, weapons systems, and advanced communication and data-sharing capabilities. These upgrades will significantly increase the aircraft’s performance and capabilities, making it a more effective platform for air defence operations.

The upgrade is also expected to bring many benefits to the Indian Air Force, including improved pilot experience, better integration with allied forces, and cost savings over the long term. With upgraded aircraft requiring less maintenance and a longer service life, it is seen as a more cost-effective option than procuring new aircraft.

In addition, the upgrade will contribute to regional stability, as the Indian Air Force plays a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability in the South Asian region. With a more capable platform, the Indian Air Force will be better equipped to carry out its peacekeeping and stability operations, contributing to the overall security and stability of the region.

With a new AESA radar, the Su-30MKI can track enemy targets much more quickly, detecting and engaging them if required. A host of new weapons are also being planned to be integrated with the aircraft. Already a deadly combo of indigenous Brahmos Air-launched cruise missiles and Astra air-to-air missiles find a place in its arsenal.

The new upgrade is expected to be carried out in India, with the least systems coming from Russia due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. It is a good thing as more indigenous systems will now find their way into the large fleet of 270+ Su-30MKI aircraft of the Indian airforce inventory.

Overall, the Super Sukhoi upgrade is a major investment in the future of the Indian Air Force and is expected to bring many benefits to the country and its people. With the upgrade expected to be completed in the coming years, the Indian Air Force will be better equipped to carry out its air defence operations and protect the country and its interests.
